Since I first read/listened to Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas, I have been WAITING to get over my book hangover. And here comes Credence, her next freaking masterpiece of sexiness and story. Thank you PG, just…. Thank you!
Tiernan de Haas is the daughter of two famous people who, throughout her entire childhood, treat her as if she’s a virus to their marriage. They show little affection to her, but they had an abundance for one another. After their unexpected passing, Tiernan is forced under the care of her step-uncle, Jake Van der Berg.
Jake grew up with the same pomp and circumstance as his step-brother, but that life had never appealed to him. After the worst betrayal from his family, he leaves the lavish life behind. He found a nice, secluded spot of land in the middle of the Colorado mountains where he built his homestead and business. He raises two boys, Noah and Kaleb, and runs a successful mechanic business.
The three of them live like absolute renegades, basically f*cking anything that walks during the summer and living isolated lives during the winter months.
When Tiernan is thrown into their mix, they all feel exceedingly protective of her, and know that with her staying at their homestead, the winter will be a little less lonely.
Jake Van der Berg: Jake is the sexy, older man of my fantasies. He’s rugged, fit as f*ck, and embraces his man-whore ways. His jaded to the likes of love after two extremely traumatic relationships; one that was the instigator for him leaving his wealthy family behind and the other with his boys’ mother who was negligent.
Noah Van der Berg: Ah, Noah. Noah is a wanderer trapped at the top of a mountain with his family. His restlessness leads him to drink more than he should and you can’t help but love how authentic and genuine he is. He’s the boy that you’d want to bring home to mom and dad – after he dries out, of course. His dream is to get away from his father and go on the professional motorcross circuit but his loyalty to his father keeps him away from chasing his dreams, despite their hard relationship.
Kaleb Van der Berg: F*cking Kaleb. Be still my loins. From the moment you first meet Kaleb, he captivates you. During his childhood, he encountered a severe trauma at the hands of his mother, and as a result, refuses to speak. THE GUY DOESN’T SPEAK AND I’M IN F*CKING LOVE. He’s a total savage- hunting for food and then literally carrying it back to the homestead – with no shirt nonetheless. The whole time you read this book you just want to know what he’s thinking, because you know it’ll be captivating.
Let’s Talk About (the) Sex, Baby!
SPLOOSH…. I want to share so much but I DON’T want to give the story away. What I will say is Douglas does not shy away from anything in this book. While there could be a little bit of a “cringe” factor from reading the snippet, do not let that deter you away from this amazing story. At the end, you don’t feel the “ick” AT ALL, despite the running theme.
Listen, JUST READ THIS DAMN BOOK. You’ll thank me later.
