I am a self-proclaimed perv – like the steamier, the better. But sometimes, you just want to read something that is light and doesn’t cause you stress. Irresistible by Melanie Harlow was a sweet & sexy story that was just good from start to finish.
I will admit I love single-dad tropes because from the start, the MMC is humanized and vulnerable and Mack is just that – a strong, but struggling single-dad who firmly believes that “it takes a community” to raise his kids.
Mack is a single-dad after his wife and him divorced over 9 months ago. Not only is he trying to balance a life with three young girls, but he’s the main caretaker and sole provider for these girls, and as a result, relies on a few different people to help “manage” his girls.
Frannie has been a little sheltered by her family because as a child, she had some very serious health issues. She’s still “in the nest” at 27 – working for her family’s farm and helping around for events. She has aspirations to expanding her life and experiencing, but her mothers’ fears keep her close to home.
Frannie is a regular in Mack and his girls’ lives as she’s one of those babysitters who helps Mack with the kids. Frannie’s infatuation with Mack is more than just a nanny / dad relationship. She’s wanted to push this relationship to the next level with Mack for as long as she can remember.
When Mack finally reciprocates her feelings, she dives in with both feet.
Frannie: I love Frannie because, despite her sheltered upbringing, she wants so much out of life. There’s as line in the book [that I didn’t highlight], where she talks about how love means you have to have an open heart and because she’d had open heart surgery, she’s open to love.
That thought perfectly encapsulates Frannie and how she approaches life.
Mack: The former Marine is doing all that he can to help his daughters have a good life and despite struggling, his love never waivers for his girls. He tries to resist his feelings for Frannie because he was burned so bad by his first wife.
Let’s Talk About (the) Sex, Baby!
This book is so sexy and sweet all at once that it was just the perfect story.
‘I want you to tell me to leave.’ He spoke quietly, but firmly.
‘Leave,’ I told him, folding my arms over my chest.
Without another word, he rushed toward me and crushed his lips to mine.
There’s a little bit of angst but just enough.
This is just a good, sweet & sexy romance that doesn’t have any huge conflict or anything, just a normal story with a little bit of sex.
I looked at her on the floor at my feet and thought, Either I’m about to die and that was life’s final parting gift, or I’m in love with her.
I wasn’t sure which one was worse.
