I will start this review by saying that I’m not a fan of Paranormal Romances. That being said, I had spent countless hours upon hours trying to find a damn book that would pull in my attention.
After following Liza James and seeing some of her story graphics, I added this to my TBR. It sat there for a while but after my inability to find a book, I dove in.
AND HOLY FUCKING SHIT, am I happy I did. I tend to stay away from paranormal romances because I feel like they require so much explanation of the world they exist in that it takes away from the story. But the world that Liza James has created appeals to non-PNR readers like myself.
Luna grew up in foster care after being abandoned in the woods with her younger sister when she was 2. She’s spent her life surviving, despite the challenges she’s faced. She finds herself in a similar situation that she was 7 years ago when she was taken and raped.
This time around, though, she’s stronger and won’t give into her fear. She stands up to her attackers and gains the attention of a man who was hiding in the shadows of the room she was taken to.
In an order to save her life, her savior Elijah, has to bond with Luna in order to save her life. But these two fight the connection that have bound them forever.
While they fight their through their attraction, there are a ton of outside players that want to keep them apart.
Oh, and by the way I’m also eternally linked to an asshole for the rest of my life. I can’t really breathe without him and also – I fucking hate him.
Luna: Luna is extremely strong and despite coming face-to-face with a traumatic experience, keeps her chin high and fights her way to survive. She had a relatively normal life, even after enduring a horrific situation, and puts the relationship with her sister above all else.
Elijah: Elijah is a fallen angel whose life has changed in in more ways than one even after he had fallen. He’s kind of a dick but it’s only because he’s afraid of his connection with Luna.
He’s a dirty talker and seriously had my ovaries shaking every time he would exude his sexuality.
Let’s Talk About (the) Sex, Baby!
OH MY ANGST. These two.. Lawd all mighty were they hot as hell. They both fought their attraction so hard, even seeking to tame their response by using other people.
Luna and Elijah are pulled together by exterior forces before their “bond” was initiated and after, Elijah fights his attraction to her.
They were fire and ice, but when they finally got together, they were fucking explosive.
It’s a mix of my blizzard no longer warring with his raging fire. Instead, the come together in perfect alliance, joining as one force that awakens power within each of us.
Seriously, his dirty mouth was EVERYTHING.
‘You’ll fuck me when I say you can. And then you’ll rind me hard and fast while I watch you take my cock. Say yes, Luna.’
This book was beautifully written. Liza James uses imagery and sensory descriptors that force you to “feel” the scene- like you’re living within the confines of what she is describing.
You feel the anger, angst, sadness, and in some situations, your heart races right along with the characters. I love when books almost make you want to fast forward to the end to get to the Happy Ending because you can’t handle the stress of the situation the characters are in.
Fated by Liza James does just that. Whether you’re a PNR fan or not, add this to your TBR!
